Tom has lived in Fife for over 30 years. He graduated in law from Dundee University in 1979. He has been a solicitor and partner in law firms in Glasgow and Edinburgh and most recently in his own practice. He has also been a solicitor advocate for over 25 years for the most part representing people who have developed industrial diseases.

He is a past President of the Society of Solicitor Advocates and a former member of the Council of the Law Society of Scotland. His principal interest outside work and family is music and for many years he has sung and played with the Inverkeithing Community Big Band.

Sarah is a Chartered Accountant, qualifying while working in an accounting practice before moving to work with companies directly. Her current role is International Director of Finance for an international technology company based in Fife. Bringing to the board her knowledge of technical charity accounting and business support.

When not working, she spends her time in the outdoors with her young family or enjoying yoga, reading and time with friends.

Jamie has worked at the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission for over ten years, starting in complaints handling and investigations before moving into digital transformation, IT development and information governance.

For the last six years, his work has focused on improving systems, services and accessibility. Jamie is particularly interested in customer service, user-centred design and making complex services more accessible and effective. Outside work, he enjoys tag rugby, padel, walking in the hills, and cooking and eating good food.

Thomas Docherty joined Which? in January 2017 as Head of Public Affairs Scotland and in July 2019 became Head of Public Affairs, Nations and Regions. Thomas leads on all Which?’s engagement with devolved administrations, politicians, regulators and other key stakeholders in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well the Metro Mayors in the English regions of England. He represents Which? on the Scottish Government’s scams advisory group, the working group on regulation of legal services, and the Consumer Protection Network. In October 2019 he was appointed by the Lord President to be a member of the Scottish Civil Justice Council, the body that prepares draft rules of procedure for the civil courts and advises the Lord President on the development of the civil justice system in Scotland.

Thomas was the Member of Parliament for Dunfermline and West Fife from May 2010 to May 2015. He was the Shadow Minister with responsibility for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs between 2013 and 2014, and in 2014 was appointed Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons. Prior to his election in 2010 he worked in Property Development, Rail and the Energy Generation sectors. In his spare time Thomas is Chairman of Dunfermline Round Table and Secretary of the Dunfermline Beer Festival Committee.

Elaine is a non-practising solicitor whose practice experience is in employment law. She was a solicitor at Islington Law Centre in London and later the Legal Director. More recently she has been the sole volunteer employment law adviser at the Mary Ward Legal Centre in London. She has taught law in universities and was a Senior Lecturer and solicitor at Kent University’s Law Clinic. She ran her own UK- wide employment law training and consultancy business including for HR members of The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). She is published both in Employment Tribunal procedure and in Legal Advice Skills.

She has been committed both as a practitioner and a manager to supporting those seeking expertise and help in welfare rights settings and seeks to bring that experience to her work as a board member. She now enjoys village life in Fife, taking part in the local choir and golf club.

Katherine works in Adult Education for Fife Council as a Tutor, Assessor, and Internal Verifier. This work takes her into the heart of communities, empowering people, individually and collectively, to make positive changes in their lives and in their communities, through learning.

She holds full registration with the Community Learning and Development Standards Council for Scotland and is a member of Fife Council’s Poverty Action Group and Chairs the Dunfermline Area Local Planning and Delivery Group. She is also a Seven Habits of Highly Effective People Trainer and has a wealth of experience supporting adults with Dyslexia.

In her spare time Katherine enjoys studying, hill walking, dressmaking, and cooking for her family.
